Dealing With A Rodent Problem

by Norah Slieker

After finding that you have a rodent problem, it is important that you take care of it as soon as possible. Rodents can be a major problem because they will often eat through wiring. Rats and mice are also a health hazard. Rats can carry fleas, and these fleas are thought to be the cause of the plague. You also need to be weary of mice since they are a carrier of Hantavirus, which can be deadly to humans. The good news is that there are a few things that you can do to try and prevent rodents from choosing your home and also get rid of them if you do have a rodent problem.

Cleanliness

One of the very best things that you can do to prevent rodents from picking your house to live in is to keep your house extremely clean. Some of the most common areas to really draw rodents in are the kitchen and storage rooms. Be sure that you are cleaning your home a few times a week, but deep clean these areas at least once a week. Pay particular attention to the cupboards and pantry to ensure that there are no crumbs to provide food for the rodents.

Traps

There are some very good rodent traps that are available on the market. Where you set your trap is one of the most important things when it comes to traps. You first want to make sure that you are setting the trap in a high traffic area. Look for fecal pellets and also grease stains on your floorboard. Rodents will travel along the edge of the room. If you decide that you want to set a mechanical trap, you should put the bait toward the middle of the room to force the rodent to cross the trap mechanism.

Poison

There are some very effective poisons that are available on the market. One of the most important things to remember when you are putting down poison is that poison does not instantly kill the rodent. Most of the time the rat or the mouse will die a few days after. So you will want to put the poison in another type of trap. This is so you do not have a mouse or a rat die in one of your walls. It can be a great way to kill the rodents in your home, but you also need to be sure that children can't get into the poison.

If you try these tips and are still struggling with a pest problem, it may be time to call in a professional pest control service to help you get rid of the problem.

About Me

Learning About Natural Pest Control

Hey everyone, my name is Silas. With two allergy prone children, I had to find natural ways to keep bugs from infiltrating our home. In this area, bugs tend to come into the house in droves as soon as the outdoor temperatures drop. When that happens, I'm forced to treat common areas to kill the bugs and keep them from growing in number. I want to share all of the natural pest control techniques I used to keep bugs out of our house. I will also talk about gentle commercial options available for heavy infestations. I hope you will visit my site on a regular basis to learn more.
